To celebrate the 2020 theme for International Women’s Day, #ChooseToChallenge, we worked alongside Robert Walters Group to deliver a free coding challenge for women across the world. Find out who our winners were below!
This virtual, global coding challenge, targeted both women at the start of their careers and women that were considering career changes, with a tech taster tutorial. Audiences were invited to download a tutorial on how to code a ‘whack-a-mole’ style mini-game. Participants were then encouraged to customise their code and share their unique game on social media for a chance to win a tech prize bundle.
Reaching people from 21 different countries, we had over 150 people #ChooseToChallenge and complete the tutorial, and some incredible ‘Cupcake Smash’ games shared all across the internet. From accountants to marketers, HR professionals and financial planners, this free mini-game brought together people from all walks of life.
“We had so much fun working with Robert Walters to deliver this game, and spark curiosity in women all across the globe.” She Codes founder, Kate Kirwin shared. “And what was even better, some of our incredible mentors, and women in tech champions since way back when we were Perth Web Girls, Amy Kapernick and Jo Minney, design and build the tutorial for this challenge. It really shows how we’re working on the full circle here at She Codes, and I’m really proud of that.”
Our winners of the challenge receive an incredible prize pack, including 1:1 mentoring, expert careers advice from a Robert Walters Group expert, a $300 AUD Amazon gift voucher and She Codes merchandise goodies!
So, a big congratulations to the Robert Walters Group and She Codes #IWDCodingChallenge winner, Allison Beh and runners-up, Suelee Christie and Jeng Kong!
From multi-levels to bold colours and bashing cupcakes, our coding champions each put a unique twist on their Cupcake Smash game code.
