Introducing She Codes

It’s been a big year for us, we’ve impacted 1,323 women over 12 events in the year, including running workshops in corporate HQ’s, across metro Perth, and throughout regional areas including Port Hedland, Karratha, Newman, Bunbury, Geraldton and Yanchep.

In May, we announced an exciting partnership with BHP to deliver Plus, a six-month program teaching from beginner level through to internship ready. With over 250 incredible women apply for the program, narrowing it down to a shortlist was no easy feat. The model for this program is truly unique – blending online and in-person content in a flipped classroom, cohort based approach. Our cohort consists of 10 BHP staff, and 15 women from the broader community have been selected, and all 25 kick off their learning adventure on Wednesday 17th July. Plus will be running again in Perth in 2020, as well as expanding to Brisbane with the backing of BHP.

Our mission is to inspire, teach, and build a community around tech for women in Australia, leading to ongoing career pathways to make a tangible difference to diversity in the tech industry. Our goal is to inspire 100,000 women across Australia by 2025.

We have a really lofty goal to inspire thousands of women, demystifying tech and creating pathways, and our old brand Perth Web Girls no longer serves that mission.

Introducing She Codes

It’s my pleasure to announce that Perth Web Girls is rebranding to She Codes. The new name reflects both an expansion in geographical areas, from a focus shifting from only Perth to across Australia, as well as broadening what we do and who we do it for.

Please check out the new website at shecodes.com.au and let us know what you think of the new look and feel. We are really excited about this shift, and how it will support the next wave of budding women in tech across the country.

So, What’s Next?

We know we have ambitious goals, but we can’t wait to share the joy of coding with more women across the country. Stay tuned for more updates on the Plus cohort in Perth for 2019, as well as updates on the upcoming 2020 programs in Perth and Brisbane.
