Last weekend, we took our one day workshop to the Great Southern thanks to the support of Albany iHub. Find out what we got up to below.
With mentors, stickers and plenty of merch in tow, we hit the road on Friday afternoon on a journey to Albany to teach participants beginner level HTML & CSS, Django & Python. Running in the same format as our previous regional and CBD workshops, we were excited to be heading to a new venue, and reach a new group of people we hadn’t taught before.
Ideation Co, the coworking and networking space for women and young entrepreneurs in the heart of regional Albany was our home for the day. Bright and early on Saturday morning, we were greeted by a room full of excited individuals with laptops in hand, and a sense of adventure behind them. And with that, we were ready to go!
Working with the team at Ideation Co ensured all of our cupcake factors were brought to life throughout the day. “The amazing team from She Codes came into town over the weekend and ran an event with iHub Break Thru Albany which was a massive SUCCESS 👏” they shared in a recent Facebook post. “It was great to connect with the team and collaborate with iHub Albany for this event. We hope you guys loved the space as much as we do🙌”
By 4pm, some individuals had a brand new webpage, some had built a game from scratch, and some had made new friends to connect with in the future. Participants shared their thoughts on the workshop, with some finding new confidence, and taking the first step of their coding journey.
“Today was so great! I got so much out of the workshop! From coding basics, to where to find helpful resources and more confidence in having a crack at writing code, I really can’t recommend it enough.”
“I learned so much and I am so excited about this first step in my coding journey!”
“Thought I’d made a mistake in attending the workshop when I first arrived but was surprised at how much I learned by the end of the day.”
All in all, a successful workshop and a fun road trip!
A massive thank you to our supporters for this event Albany iHub, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and Spacecubed and as a collaboration between Breakthru WA, ACCI and WorklinkWA.
