Last Thursday saw the inaugural one-day conference, WiTWA [+] 2019 bring together outstanding leaders and companies in tech, and inspire action towards diversity and equality in the workplace.
She Codes were delighted to be supporting partners for this event, and watch as it came to life through the hard work and dedication of WiTWA chair, Pia Turcinov and over 20 volunteers. With over 400 conference attendees and an additional 150 joining for the award ceremony, this sold-out event was proof of how many incredible women in the tech community are from Perth.
Amongst the crowd was Professor Lyn Beazly, the Patron of WiTWA, Hon Simone McGurk MLA, Minister for Women’s Interests, and Hon Dave Kelly MLA, Minister for Water, Fisheries, Science and Innovation as well as members of our Plus cohort and lots of faces we recognise across the She Codes community and beyond. Headlining the event, was the graceful and humble Lyndsey Scott, an International Model and iOS Developer, who shared her story on breaking the stereotype behind coding, and why it’s so important for women to pursue what they love.
The day was filled with stories of ingenuity, adversity and triumph from some extraordinary local, national and international role models in the tech space, including a panel discussion chaired by our very own founder, Kate Kirwin, featuring Youth role models Catherine Moolenschot, Lexy McDonald and Mihi Doraliyagoda.
Bringing to life the statement ‘if you can see her you can be her’, WiTWA truly delivered. Through stories from companies striving to achieve diversity and equality in tech industries, professional-development style learning, and an abundance of opportunities for WA’s tech community to engage with each other, make sure you get in early for your tickets in 2020!
