Our upcoming She Codes Plus program will provide Emergence scholarships for women to access technical upskilling. This edition of our flagship six month program will prepare women for careers in the technical industry by teaching content from beginner right through to junior developer. The focus for our Emergence scholarships are to contribute to closing the gap on socioeconomic disadvantage, and champion individuals who may have been unexposed to similar opportunities in the past.
As part of this project, She Codes looks to boost job opportunities for women across Western Australia and Queensland, and increase their choices in work by breaking down employment barriers. With 70% of our Plus alumni from the last two years now employed in technical roles, we’re excited to grow this number and support individuals all throughout their tech careers.
“I’m very proud of the work we’ve been doing at She Codes to increase diversity in the tech industry.” Founder, Kate Kirwin shared. “It is critical we act now to invest in skills and jobs of the future – we know that 75% of the fastest growing careers require technical knowledge, and right now there are certain demographics of women that are missing out on these opportunities because of systemic barriers”.
The program is led by our local, industry mentors, and will focus on teaching skills such as HTML/CSS, Python, React, building web and mobile apps, processing data and presentation skills.
What makes the Emergence scholarships special is that we are offering fully-funded positions for First Nations Women, women of colour, women who are neurodivergent / or live with disabilities, and the unemployed/underemployed, as we aim to teach future skills, build confidence and improve career pathway opportunities.
“She Codes Australia is such a unique program because it brings together the efforts across so many areas of the Morrison Government in one transformational opportunity for aspiring Australian women. This is the rubber hitting the road from the inclusion of our Women’s Budget Statement in this year’s Federal Budget.” commented Ben Small, Senator for Western Australia.
This program is coming soon to Boorloo (Perth) in a few months, and to Mianjin (Brisbane) in early 2022. Application are now open for Perth, you can download the info pack and apply here.
