She Codes have partnered with Purposeful to deliver She Codes Next

The latest program to join the She Codes repertoire is She Codes Next, a partnership with Purposeful to deliver a one week, full time, tech taster program to young women aged between 13 – 17.

Designed to follow a similar structure as She Codes Flash, Next will also entail elements of finding your ‘why’ before diving into any technical content, with a mission to educate young people about their careers, and provide them with a program that is both empowering and purposeful.

We know that the future of work holds opportunities for both traditional and non-traditional career pathways, which is why we’ve designed this program to help young women explore their passions, in a way that opens up opportunities for their future. We believe that the best way to predict the future is to create it!

“I believe that every young person is deserving of a purposeful future. To me, that means that every single day you wake up to a life that you love and excites you beyond belief.” Purposeful founder Elizabeth Knight shares.

Throughout the week, in addition to finding your ‘why’, each program participant will have the chance to learn web fundamentals, build their own personal website from scratch with HTML and CSS. Students will also get hands on with hardware – learning the fundamentals of programming while playing with sensors, sound, and interacting with the physical environment. To close out the week, we will be building unique projects, giving students the opportunity to be creative and bring an idea to life!

“I’m super excited for the opportunity to bring programs about tech to young women. It’s going to be a really fun week, with plenty of learning, building and creating. The opportunity to see something come to life that you have had the chance to create is really special, and I can’t wait to share that with these young women.” She Codes founder Kate Kirwin shares.

The program will be running in Perth CBD from the 5th to the 9th of October, and is open to young women of all backgrounds and experience levels. Fully funded scholarships are available thanks to New Industries WA and Spacecubed. We encourage anyone who is curious about technology, and keen to learn, play and grow to apply for Next.

Applications are open until the 21st of September, click here to apply.
